Bornemann Gewindetechnik are a mid-sized company based in Germany who specialise in custom-made screw threads. Their state-of-the-art machine park expertly combines innovative CNC machines designed by their own engineers with hand-picked conventional technologies. They design and deliver customised threading products for companies all over the world.
For this project, Bornemann Gewindetechnik needed a video showcasing their products translated into 24 languages to reflect their large customer base. Through an efficient workflow and AI testing, t’works helped Bornemann reduce the costs of such a large project by 60%.
Bornemann Gewindetechnik’s Challenge
Since 2016, Bornemann has trusted t’works to translate text and audio content. This new project, a video that showcased their products, required translation into 24 languages:
Arabic, Chinese (simplified), Czech, Danish, Dutch, English (UK), Finnish, French, Greek, Hungarian, Irish Gaelic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese (Portugal), Slovenian, Spanish (Spain), Swedish, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese.
It was an ambitious project. Six of these languages were designated as Priority 1. Voiceovers would be done with a voiceover actor. The remaining 18 would be completed via AI, with quality assurance carried out by localisation experts.
This combination of human and AI work reduced Bornemann’s cost by 55%-80%.
“As a manufacturer of customised thread components for top industries worldwide, we focus on perfection,” says Moritz von Soden, CEO and Managing Partner of Bornemann. “And not only with our products, but also with our partners. With t’works, we have found exactly the right partner.”
Why Bornemann Gewindetechnik Chose t’works
Because of the breadth of languages required, Bornemann wanted to work with a company that could not only accommodate the full list in one project, but was open to working with AI in a way that lowered costs and kept user interaction top of mind. t’works has been translating for industry for over 70 years, so they could quickly develop a workflow that reduced costs.
The Solution
t’works tested different industry-leading AI solutions to find the one that supported an efficient workflow and provided precise timing, accurate translations, and all 24 languages.
After comparing the results of the AI testing against the requirements laid out in the project brief, t’works proposed a path forward that prioritised quality while delivering within Bornemann’s timeline and budget:
- Create a term dictionary to standardise all terminology in the translations.
- Complete all text translations and localisations for all languages using human translators.
- Record the six Priority 1 languages with human voiceover actors.
- Record the remaining with an AI voiceover solution.
- Have human translators review all videos for quality assurance on both the visual and audio elements.
The video for Priority 1 languages was translated and voiced over quickly because of t’works’s reliable, streamlined process.
When AI was used for the remaining 18 languages, t’works devoted time to ensuring a high level of quality. This involved several steps:
- Generating sample voices for Bornemann to approve early in the process.
- Reviewing the AI output with native speakers.
- Quality assurance conducted by experts in localisation.
The process surpassed Bornemann’s expectations.
The Results
“They localised our image video into countless languages in record time,” says von Soden.
Lines of communication were kept open throughout. Bornemann provided feedback on aspects of the project, including the voice talents, pronunciation, and terminology, and t’works incorporated the suggestions into the translations.
t’works also kept their promise of delivering only high-quality translations and voiceovers: when a human translator for the Japanese video flagged pronunciation errors in the AI generated voiceover, t’works used a different AI tool to complete the tasks.
Throughout the creation process, t’works provided Bornemann with updates and answered any questions. This dedication to keeping in touch gave Bornemann confidence that the outcome would meet, if not exceed, their expectations for the project.
“The result speaks for itself,” says von Soden. “We can now reach customers in over 50 countries with a message that hits home. Quality at the highest level, just the way we love it.”
